PM GatiShakti Progress Evaluation: Indian Railways Tops List With Over Rs 6 Lakh Crore In Mega-Infra Projects

Over 100 big ticket infrastructure projects of the central government are being examined for progress under the Pradhan Mantri GatiShakti scheme.

The Indian Railways is leading with 44 major projects, worth over Rs 6 lakh crore, followed by the Road Transport and Highways Ministry with 43 projects worth nearly Rs 4 lakh crore.

According to the data prepared by the Department of Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade, a total of 107 infrastructure projects are being evaluated for progress and implementation. These projects include energy corridor, connectivity and rail sector among others.

These projects being evaluated in the Network Planning Group are worth Rs 1,102,714 crore.

While Indian Railways has 44 projects worth Rs 601,079 crore, the Road Transport and Highways Ministry has 43 projects worth Rs 374,048 crore.

The New and Renewable Energy Ministry has just one project worth Rs 20,774 crore, Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs has eight projects worth Rs 79,018 crore in the list of big infrastructure projects being evaluated.

Ministry of Petroleum and Natural gas has four projects worth Rs 9,056 crore and the National Industrial Corridor Development Corporation Limited has five projects worth Rs 12,781 crore.

PM GatiShakti National Master Plan (NMP) was launched on 13 October 2021, to build next generation infrastructure, improve ease of living. as well as, ease of doing business.

In the last two years, significant progress has been observed in terms of development of digital platform, data quality management, training and capacity building.

Infrastructure-related ministries are benefitting in various ways from the NMP.

From digital surveys that are revolutionising the planning process reducing time taken for DPR preparation, to easy visualisation of intersections of the planned projects with forests/economic zones/archeological sites — the NMP is thereby leading to more accurate project planning, including land acquisition, financial estimations, clearances required.
