Recycle With Respect — Tata Motors Launches Its First Registered Vehicle Scrapping Facility

Tata Motors on 1 March launched its first registered vehicle scrapping facility (RVSF) in the country in Jaipur.
The facility named, Re.Wi.Re — Recycle with Respect, was inaugurated virtually by Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari and marks a significant leap forward in the Company’s commitment towards sustainable mobility.
Developed and operated by Tata Motors' partner Ganganagar Vaahan Udyog Pvt Ltd, the facility will dismantle end-of-life passenger and commercial vehicles of all brands and ensure de-pollutioning.
The state-of-the-art facility has a capacity of 15,000 vehicles per annum and follows world-class, eco-friendly processes for safe and sustainable dismantling of end-of-life vehicles.
It has dedicated stations for safe dismantling of components such as tyres, batteries, fuel, oils, liquids and gases. The vehicles go through a stringent documentation and dismantling process, curated individually for passenger and commercial vehicle requirements.
National Vehicle Scrappage Policy
The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRT&H) has formulated the National Vehicle Scrappage Policy that includes a system of incentives/dis-incentives for creation of an ecosystem to phase out older, unfit polluting vehicles.
The policy promotes circular economy — yield maximum value from the scrap for future use and minimise waste for the overall betterment and also helps achieve a lower carbon footprint in the country by replacing them with greener and more fuel-efficient vehicles.
As part of this policy, 11 Registered Vehicle Scrapping Facilities (RVSFs) are currently operational in the country.
This includes three in Uttar Pradesh (Noida, Greater Noida, Bulandshahar), three in Gujarat (Kheda, Alang- Bhavnagar Road), two in Haryana (Fatehpur, Sonipat), Indore in Madhya Pradesh, Rangiya in Assam and Chandigarh.
5,359 private and 67 commercial vehicles have been scrapped at these facilities between 01 January 2022 and 31 January 2023.
The Government is working towards positioning India as a vehicle scrapping hub for the entire South Asian region and hence is promoting more such state-of-the-art scrapping and recycling units in India.
