Delhi Cantonment Railway Station Redevelopment Project: RLDA Awards Rs 310 Crore EPC Contract To Ram Kripal Singh Construction Pvt Ltd

Indian Railways has awarded the contract for redevelopment of the Delhi Cantonment Railway Station on an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) model at an estimated cost of about Rs 310 crore.

The Railways Rail Land Development Authority (RLDA), responsible for rail land development, has selected Ram Kripal Singh Construction Pvt Ltd through the bidding process for a complete makeover of the station built in 1914.

The real estate developer, which has quoted Rs 309,80,80,000 crore to execute the project in 30 months, will start the major upgradation work shortly.

With the current footfalls of about 11,000 per day, the station is expected to be a major transportation hub in south west Delhi with increased commercial activities after the completion of the project.

Currently, many trains coming from Delhi to Rajasthan and Gujarat halt at the station.


The redeveloped Delhi Cantonment Station envisages to have more platforms to cater to the large number of trains, which would take off the load from New Delhi and Old Delhi stations.

The arrival area would be separated from the departure area for effective crowd management at the proposed redevelopment plan. There would be multilevel parking lots, shopping malls and food plazas among other facilities for the passengers.

According to the RLDA, the purpose is to create separate arrival/departure passenger movement and circulation at the station on both sides.

The aim is to provide safe and comfortable world-class passenger amenities/services with maximum possible modern amenities in a clean and pleasing ambiance.

The revamped station will also have escalators and elevators for the smooth movement of passengers in the station.


The redevelopment plan also includes multimodal integration with different modes of transport.

The redevelopment of the station will also have a positive impact on the development of surrounding areas like Nangal Raya, Old Nangal, Khazan Basti, Lajwanti Garden and Mayapuri.

According to the RLDA,  the key objectives of station upgradation are to provide best-in-class amenities to passengers and enhance their travel experience.

The project aims to provide user-friendly facilities and passenger services for the convenience of common passengers, elderly and physically challenged passengers.

RLDA maintains the least possible inconvenience to passengers, road commuters and residents during the period of construction.

RLDA has leased out 19 sites at Bengaluru and Raichur (Karnataka), Liluah and Salt Golah (Howrah), Nizamabad (Telangana), Walltax Road and Egmore (Chennai), Bhopal (MP), Ludhiana (Punjab), Abu Road (Rajasthan), Bhusawal and Solapur (Maharashtra), Bareilly, Varanasi and Gorakhpur in UP, Katra (J&K), Sirsa (Haryana) and Muzaffarpur (Bihar) for a cumulative lease premium of Rs 1,840 crore.

Besides, the railway assets valuing approximately Rs 267 crore are to be developed in Bengaluru, Bhopal, Egmore (Chennai), Bareilly, Ludhiana and Muzaffarpur Railway Colonies in the current fiscal.

RLDA has recently awarded the station redevelopment contracts for Chandigarh, Nagpur, Surat amongst others to be redeveloped on EPC model.
