In a bid to assess the current status and outline future expansion plans for Srinagar Airport, Aijaz Assad, the Civil Aviation Secretary of Jammu and Kashmir, conducted a thorough review during a recent visit.

The secretary chaired a meeting with senior officers, focusing on both the ongoing project expansion and the operational challenges faced at the airport, particularly during the winter season with reduced visibility.

During the meeting, the secretary issued strict directives to relevant agencies, addressing crucial matters such as the transfer of land near the drop gate, vacation of Central Public Works Department (CPWD) quarters, and other vital aspects essential for the smooth execution of the expansion project.

An official update highlighted that Srinagar Airport Director presented a detailed overview of the existing facilities, along with the proposed expansion plans, reports Economic Times.

The presentation also addressed obstacles encountered at the proposed expansion site. Secretary Assad personally inspected various areas, including the airside region, the proposed apron expansion site, the terminal building expansion site, the city-side, Airports Authority of India (AAI) and CPWD residential colonies, the suggested location for Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) barracks, the site of AAI quarters, and the land earmarked for acquisition by AAI.

Secretary Assad, who recently assumed the roles of Secretary of Planning, Development, and Monitoring, in addition to being appointed Administrative Secretary Civil Aviation and Commissioner Civil Aviation, demonstrated a hands-on approach during the inspection.

The comprehensive review and strategic directives aim to enhance both the infrastructure and operational efficiency of Srinagar Airport, reflecting the commitment of the Civil Aviation Department to the region's air travel development.
