The Yogi Adityanath led state government in Uttar Pradesh has acquired around 95 percent of the land required for the upcoming Ganga Expressway project.

The six-lane and 594 km long Ganga Expressway connects Meerut and Prayagraj.

Already, 82.58 per cent of clearing and grubbing (C&G) work is completed on this mega project estimated to be built at a cost of Rs 36,200 crore.

“We have received the environment and forest clearances for the project, while more than 52 percent of the shifting of utilities has been done. We have also appointed independent engineers for all the four groups of the expressway,” state industrial development minister Nand Gopal Gupta Nandi told Business Standard.

Over 7,000 hectares of the estimated 7,456 hectares required for the project was acquired by the Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA).

In December 2021, Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone of 594 km long Meerut-Prayagraj Ganga Expressway in Uttar Pradesh's Shahjahanpur.

Starting near the Bijauli village in Meerut, the Expressway will extend till near the Judapur Dandu village in Prayagraj. It passes through Meerut, Hapur, Bulandshahr, Amroha, Sambhal, Budaun, Shahjahanpur, Hardoi, Unnao, RaeBareli, Pratapgarh and Prayagraj.

Upon completion of work, it will become the longest expressway of Uttar Pradesh, connecting the western and eastern regions of the state.

A 3.5 Km long air strip for assisting emergency take off and landing of Air Force planes will also be constructed on the Expressway in Shahjahanpur.

In the second phase of the project, the state government plans to extend the expressway at both ends — by 110 km from Meerut to Tigri on the Uttar Pradesh/Uttarakhand border and by 314 km from Prayagraj to Ballia.
