148-Year-Old Sri Krishnan Temple Re-Sanctified In Singapore

One of the oldest Hindu temples in Singapore was re-sanctified during a consecration ceremony called Maha Samprokshanam, said a report in the Hindustan Times.
Communications and Information Minister S Iswaran, who was specially flown in from India, led more than 10,000 devotees and priests at the ceremony to re-sanctify the 148-year-old Sri Krishnan Temple.
According to the Straits Times, the ceremony marked the start of a 48-day consecration process of the temple that underwent renovation for more than four years, costing nearly 4 million Singapore dollars.
The Sri Krishnan Temple was established in 1870, when an idol of Lord Krishna was set up under a banyan tree in Waterloo Street, which was then known as Church Street. The temple remains at its original site and was gazetted for conservation in June 2014.
Maha Samprokshanam is conducted every 12 to 15 years in Hindu temples across Singapore, many of them were built by Indian migrants more than 100 years ago.
