Approximately 29,000 youths from the Jammu division of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) have registered themselves for recruitment in the Indian Army, reports The Indian Express.
As of now, 6000 applicants have already taken part in the recruitment rally conducted by the Indian Army’s Counter Insurgency Force (Uniform). Of these, 2,500 belong to Ramban and Kishtwar districts, and another 3,600 aspirants come from Doda. The area of these districts is also known as the Chenab Valley, where Muslims form a majority of the population.
Of the soldiers who have applied for recruitment, about 40 per cent belong to the Muslim community.
According to Army officials, this is the first time a recruitment rally is being carried out since the announcement of Article 370’s revocation on 5 August. The vacancies for which recruitment is being conducted include a wide range of roles, from soldier general duty, soldier technical to soldier nursing assistance, soldier clerk, etc.
The soldiers will be selected through a multi-tiered process; firstly they will have to clear a fitness test and after that they will be required to sit for a written test and also pass the medical test.
