Civil Aviation Minister Suresh Prabhu announced that the government will be investing over 60 billion dollars in the next decade to develop over 100 airports.

India’s aviation sector is undoubtedly one of the fastest growing in the world, and has the pride of maintaining a double digit growth record in the past 50 months or so, in terms of its traffic growth.

Mr Prabhu said that they will be developed on a public-private partnership model (PPP) which will ensure that the quality is maintained and can be carried out effectively. He also emphasized on the fact that India needs to re-look at its cargo policy, and the ministry will soon be coming out with more news about the same.

According to International Air Transport Association (IATA), India will overtake Germany, Japan, Spain and even the United Kingdom within the next ten years to become the world’s third largest air passenger market. Hence, developing such infrastructure becomes imperative for the government.
