Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman
Union Finance Minister (FM) Nirmala Sitharama on Thursday (14 May) said the central government had sanctioned 63 lakh loans worth a total of Rs 86,000 crore for farmers across India between 1 March and 30 April 2020.
The Finance Minister, before announcing the the second tranche measures in the economic stimulus package, highlighted the measures taken for agriculture sector earlier amid the COVID-19 pandemic. She said the second tranche will benefit the migrant workers, street vendors and small farmers.
She also informed about other measures that have already been taken amid the coronavirus crisis.
At a press conference, she said 3 crore marginal farmers have already availed Rs 4 lakh crore of loans on concessional rates, while also saying that the government had sanctioned 25 lakh new Kisan Credit Cards with a loan limit of Rs 25, 000 crore.
The Finance Minister was was holding the second press conference to give detailed breakup of the Atmanirbhar Bharat package which was promised by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday.
