Coronavirus update
The data made public by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MOHFW) on Saturday (5 April) shared that 83 per cent of the confirmed COVID-19 patients in India were aged below 60 years, reports The Times of India.
The Ministry also shared that the majority of the people, 41 per cent of them are in the age group of 21-40 years, while only 17 per cent of all confirmed cases involved patients aged more than 60 years.
Joint Secretary at the Ministry, Lav Agarwal though also shared that the case-doubling rate in India continues to be lower than that observed in other nations. He said, “We are dealing with a highly infectious and communicable disease. We are battling with this on a day-to-day basis.”
Sharing that close to only nine per cent of all cases involved those in 1-20 years age bracket, and that about 33 per cent of all patients were in the age bracket of 41-60 years, he shared that when it comes to the deaths, it has been observed that most of the deaths are being reported among elderly people, or among people having comorbidities such as diabetes, kidney and cardiac ailments.
