Shova Majumdar (ANI)
Shova Mazumdar, the elderly 85-year-old mother of BJP leader Gopal Majumdar who was brutally assaulted by alleged Trinamool Congress goons, died early Monday morning (29 March), Republic TV reported.
She was discharged from the hospital on 25 March, and has passed away four days later.
Earlier, Shova claimed that a group of TMC workers barged into their house on the morning of 27 Februrary and pushed her to the ground and hit her, including on the face. The attackers also threatened her to keep her mouth shut and warned her against identifying them to the cops.
An FIR was lodged based on the complaints by Gopal and his mother.
Social media users have expressed their anguish upon learning the tragic death of the elderly woman, saying that 'this daughter of Bengal is dead', saying that the incident was shameful and a blot on Bengal.'
BJP IT cell chief Amit Malviya tweeted on Monday saying, “This daughter of Bengal…is dead. She was brutally assaulted by TMC cadres but Mamata Banerjee didn’t have a word of compassion for her. Who will heal the wounds of her family?” he asked. “TMC’s politics of violence has bruised Bengal’s soul,” the BJP leader added.
Home Minister Amit Shah has also expressed his anguish over Shova's demise.
"Anguished over the demise of Bengal’s daughter Shova Majumdar ji, who was brutally beaten by TMC goons. The pain and wounds of her family will haunt Mamata didi for long. Bengal will fight for a violence-free tomorrow, Bengal will fight for a safer state for our sisters and mothers," Shah has tweeted.
