Shiv Linga in My Son sanctuary (Dr S Jaishankar)
A monolithic sandstone Shiv Linga has been discovered in Vietnam’s Cham Temple Complex which is part of the My Son sanctuary in the Quang Nam province. The Shiva Linga dates back to the 9th century and its excavation is a result of conservation efforts by the Archaeological Survey of India.
India’s External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar who shared the news on Twitter called it a great cultural example of India’s development partnership and a civilisational connect between the two countries.
The fully intact Shiv Linga is part of a complex of Hindu temples which were constructed by the mighty Champa Empire between 4th century CE and 13th century CE in My Son.
My Son a designated UNESCO world heritage centre is home to a variety of Hindu temples built over 10 centuries and is a testament to the technological sophistication of Cham people.
