New Milestone: One Million Commuters On The Country's First Namo Bharat Trains

As many as one million passengers have boarded Namo Bharat train so far, according to data from Regional Rapid Transport System (RRTS) data.

The RRTS, India's first regional rail service, offers a unique rail-based commuter service for regional transit in the National Capital Region (NCR). Stretching over 82.15 km from Sarai Kale Khan in Delhi to Modipuram in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, it stands as the country's inaugural RRTS.

Being built by the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) the network will encompass 25 stations and two depots, linking Delhi, Ghaziabad, and Meerut upon its anticipated completion by 2025.

The service, branded as Namo Bharat, is designed to carry around 800,000 passengers a day at full capacity — a similar number to Hamburg's S-Bahn. The travel speed of the trains is 160 kmph, thereby becoming fastest regional rail system in India. 

On 20 October last year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the 17-km-long priority section of the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS Corridor. 

Currently, a 34-km stretch between Sahibabad and Modi Nagar North, comprising eight stations, is operational. This operational segment of the Delhi–Meerut RRTS corridor is proving to be a boon for passengers amid scorching temperatures, offering a comfortable and convenient travel experience.

The Delhi segment, comprising four stations, is expected to be ready by early 2025, with the entire 82-km corridor slated for operation by June 2025. The project is being developed at a cost of Rs 30,274 crore.
