In a significant development for Delhi’s regional rapid rail network, the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has approved the Influent Zone Plan for the Jangpura–Sarai Kale Khan stretch, paving the way for the Namo Bharat corridor’s final phase of operational readiness, PTI reported.

The Influent Zone Plan serves as a regulatory framework guiding land use and urban development around major transport projects. It aims to ensure orderly growth and mitigate the broader urban impact of high-capacity transit systems such as the Namo Bharat corridor.

NCRTC Managing Director Shalab Goel, speaking at the Namo Bharat Diwas event on Monday (13 October), said, “Recently, the Influent Zone Plan from Jangpura to Sarai Kale Khan has been approved by the Delhi Development Authority.”

Goel added that NCRTC currently caters to around four crore commuters and aims to double this to 8.4 crore in the coming years.

The event, attended by Minister of State for Housing and Urban Affairs Tokan Sahu and MoHUA Secretary and NCRTC Chairperson Srinivas Katikithala, also saw the unveiling of Namo Bharat’s signature tune.

The melody, composed by blending Indian classical ragas, is designed to evoke “joy and cultural harmony” among commuters.

Formerly known as RapidX, Namo Bharat is India’s first Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS), connecting Delhi with nearby cities in the National Capital Region. Conceived in the late 1990s, the project gained momentum after NCRTC’s formation in 2013 to develop eight such corridors.

Currently, 55 km of the Delhi–Ghaziabad–Meerut corridor with 11 stations is operational, with the remaining stretches nearing completion. NCRTC is also enhancing power procurement through exchanges in Uttar Pradesh and Delhi to support the network’s growing footprint.
