Yogi Adityanath led Uttar Pradesh government plans to build a modern township equipped with world-class facilities adjoining the ancient city of Ayodhya, New Indian Express has reported.

This town named Navya Ayodhya would lie between Ayodhya and Faizabad, and is designed to put the former on the global religious tourism map. Work is expected to begin later this year.

Navya Ayodhya would span 500 acres and would be situated about 10 KM from Ayodhya. It would be connected via the Faizabad-Gorakhpur national highway.

This modern township would boast of facilities like riverfront resorts, five-star hotels, multi-storied commercial and residential buildings and underground drainage system.

Another feature of the township would be studio apartments called Mukti Dham, where people can choose to spend the last of their days. Even though the apartments would be priced at Rs 25 lakh, people can also stay there after paying Rs 5 lakh, and the apartment would be taken back by the civic authority after the resident’s death.

The project is estimated to cost about 1,200 crore.

Tourism officials believe that Ayodhya has immense tourism potential owing to it being the birth-place of Lord Ram. About 1.7 crore tourists visited Ayodhya last year out of which just 24,000 were foreigners.

The plan prepared by consultancy firm Pricewaterhouse Coopers has been approved by the tourism ministry following which the proposal was forwarded to the state government.
