The fourth and final test of India tour of Australia saw many records broken and new records set. The Indian Cricket Team, led by Virat Kohli drew the final test to win the series 2-1 and created history to win their maiden test series in Australia as well as becoming the first Asian team to win a series down under.
Following the victory, Kohli called it his biggest achievement which will give the team a different identity.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to Twitter to express has joy:
Leading the series 2-1, India put an unattainable 622 runs on the board in the first innings through magnificent innings of 193 and 159* from Cheteshwar Pujara and wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant respectively.
Pujara also broke ‘the wall’ Rahul Dravid’s record of facing the most balls in Australia. Pujara was also named as the man of the match and player of the series. The Indian bowlers then took over the game as Kuldeep Yadav took five wickets and sent Australian team packing for 300 runs. On day three, Australia were struggling at 236-6, and the play was halted due to bad lights.
The final two days of the test match were interrupted by rain. However, India managed to finish the lower order of Australians. Virat Kohli then decided to enforce the follow-on and become the first team to enforce the follow-on on Australia in Australia in 33 years.
The Indian team is likely to continue their good form onto the ODI format as they will face Australian’s in three-match ODI series starting from 12 January.
