Shiv Sena Chief Uddhav Thackeray with his son Aaditya Thackeray (@AUThackeray/Twitter)
Shiv Sena supremo Uddhav Thackeray's son Aaditya Thackeray is set to be the first in his family to contest an election as the party announced yesterday (30 September) that he would be party’s candidate from Worli seat in the upcoming Maharashtra assembly elections, reports Hindu Businessline.
The Worli seat is considered a safe seat for the party as a majority of the voters in the constituency are constituted by Maharashtrians. Presently, the seat is held by Shiv Sena leader Sunil Shinde.
29-year-old Thackeray is currently the chief of Shiv Sena's youth wing. Addressing a rally at Worli on Monday, he said, “I am not running to achieve my dream, I am not doing this for becoming a MLA, a minister or to become a Chief Minister. I want Maharashtra to become prosperous, to become debt and pollution-free.”
Hailing the development, senior leader of the Shiv Sena, Sanjay Raut said that the Shiv Sena will soon have Aaditya occupying the 6th floor of the Mantralaya (secretariat).
