Rehana Fathima, the ‘activist’ known for being a vocal proponent of implementing the Supreme Court’s judgment on allowing women’s entry into the Sabarimala Temple was jailed and had to pay a fine of Rs 2.1 lakh in a cheque fraud case, reports The Week.
The activist, reportedly appeared before the Alappuzha CJM court on 4 February to serve a sentence and pay the fine. A financier had filed a case against her relating to a loan she availed.
The complainant Anil Kumar had loaned Rs 2 lakh to Fathima in 2014. The cheque produced by Fathima towards the repayment of the loan reportedly bounced, prompting Kumar to complain against her.
Previously, she was arrested on 27 November by the Pathanamthitta police, under the Indian penal code (IPC) section 295(a) which pertains to deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings for trying to enter Sabarimala.
The controversial activist also faced expulsion from the Muslim community at the hands of the Kerala Muslim Jama'ath Council for "hurting sentiments of lakhs of Hindu devotees" by attempting to enter the shrine.
Her employer, BSNL had also transferred her and initiated an enquiry against her.
