Actor-turned-politician Urmila Matondkar has resigned from the Congress party today (10 September) saying she could not be used as a mean to fight petty in-house politics, tweets ANI.
Matondkar who had joined the party months ahead of 2019 general elections hinted towards the inner politics in Mumbai Congress. She said, “My political and social sensibilities refuse to allow vested interests in the party to use me as a mean to fight petty in-house politics instead of working on a bigger goal in Mumbai Congress.”
Her concerns over the inside politics were hinting towards the on-going tussle between the factions of senior leaders Sanjay Nirupam and Milind Deora.
The 45-year-old actress had unsuccessfully contested the Lok Sabha polls from Mumbai North constituency, losing against Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) Gopal Shetty.
She also alleged, some of her own party people had worked against her during the elections and they were rewarded later.
A formal statement from her side is still awaited.
