A major rocket explosion shook the United States (US) Embassy in Afghanistan just minutes into Wednesday (11 September), marking the anniversary of 9/11 terrorist strike on the United States of America, reports Financial Express.

No personnel have been injured and no damage has been inflicted on the compound of the embassy, even though the timing and day of the rocket attack gains significance as it marks the most devastating attack on US which was led by Al Qaeda supremo Osama Bin Laden who had for long been harboured by the Taliban.

It was only after 9/11 that the US invaded Afghanistan and dethroned the Taliban regime over the nation in a war which has now been going on for 18 years. presently as many as 14,000 soldiers from the US remain stationed in Afghanistan. This figure has reached as high as 1,00,000 under president Obama's rule in 2011.

The attack also gains significance as it follows the decision of President Trump to call off the signing of a peace deal with Taliban which involved calling back on more than half of the stationed US troops within 135 days of the deal being signed.
