After Meeting Xi At G20, Trump Puts New Tariffs On Hold, Says Will Allow US Companies To Resume Sales To Huawei

After meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping at the G20 Summit in Osaka, US President Donald Trump announce at a press conference that he would allow American companies to resume sales to Chinese telecom giant Huawei, reports Bloomberg.
“These are American companies producing the products. This is complex ... highly scientific. We are the only one with the technology. I have agreed to allow them to continue selling the products … I like our companies selling things to others ... very complex things. These are not things easy to make ... our companies were very upset, but we are allowing them. So if it is not national security issue, we are allowing them to sell,” Trump said.
Trump claimed that in return the Chinese premier had agreed to purchase large quantities of US agricultural produce.
He also revealed that he had agreed to hold off on pursuing further tariffs on Chinese products for the time being. However, the broader question regarding Huawei and the ban on its products by the US government would only come to be discussed later on towards the end of trade talks.
“We’re leaving Huawei toward the end. We’ll see where we go with a trade agreement,” he stated.
Another major point of contention that remains unresolved is the continuing house arrest of Huawei executive Meng Wanzhou, daughter of the company’s founder Ren Zhengfei. She was detained by Canadian authorities on the basis of a US extradition request against her.
