Wreath Laying Ceremony For Slain Policeman In Srinagar (Waseem Andrabi/Hindustan Times via Getty Images)
Reports have emerged that three Jammu & Kashmir policemen who were abducted on Friday morning have been found killed in the Shopian district of south Kashmir. This development comes on the heels of the abduction of relatives of policemen from various parts of Jammu & Kashmir. The abductions were apparently in retaliation to the police questioning the relatives of terrorists seeking information on whereabouts of the militants.
The Hizbul Mujahideen had, in fact, released a video claiming responsibility for the abductions of policemen’s relatives subsequent to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) arresting the second son of Hizbul commander Syed Salahuddin. The discovery of the policemen’s body is part of a disturbing trend where militants are actively targeting personnel of the Jammu and Kashmir police in a bid to scare the local population away from association with the police forces.
