After Streatham Attack, British PM Boris Johnson Announces Legislation To End Early Release Of Terror Convicts

United Kingdom Prime Minister Boris Johnson on Thursday (6 February) said that his government will bring a legislation in the Parliament of the country to end the automatic early release of the terrorist offenders.
The move comes days after a terrorist, identified as Sudesh Amman, stabbed two innocent bystanders on Streatham High Road in London on Sunday (2 February) afternoon. Amman was shot dead by the police within minutes of launching the attack.
Amman had been released from prison on 23 January, where he served time for spreading terrorist material including on a family Whatsapp group.
In the aftermath of the attack, the PM Johnson-led government has decided to bring an emergency legislation to prevent the repeat of such terror incident.
“We are shortly bringing forward legislation to end automatic early release of terrorist offenders and that will apply to all currently serving prisoners,” PM Johnson said.
He added that a legislation will also be brought for ending the automatic early release for prisoners serving sentences for serious crimes.
The emergency legislation for ending automatic early release of terrorists, which will be introduced in the House of Commons on Tuesday (11 February), will ensure that terror offenders are considered for release only after serving two-thirds of their sentence and will be required to serve their full term if the parole board deems them a threat to the public, reports Independent.
