State Education Minister C. Raveendranath on Wednesday (6 November) gifted a laptop to Kathiyayani Amma, the 96-year-old who etched her name in the record books after being the oldest woman to top the Aksharalaksham literacy examination of the Kerala State Literacy Mission Authority.

She had worked this hard in a bid to fulfil her goal of learning computers and passing the Class X equivalency exam, which she expressed when she had reached Thiruvananthapuram to receive her certificate from the Chief Minister, as reported by ET.

Kerala CM Pinyari Vijayan facilitated the Alappuzha native for scoring an astounding 98 marks out of 100 in the state’s literacy program.

The exam was taken by an estimated 43,330 candidates and tested the reading, writing and basic numerical ability of the candidates. The literacy program was launched on Republic day to achieve Kerala’s dream of having a 100 per cent literacy rate.
