National airline Air India would be given the preference of the international slots of Jet Airways during allocation, Livemint reports citing an Aviation Ministry official on Friday (17 May).

The decision comes after a meeting between Aviation Secretary Pradeep Singh Kharola and representatives of all airlines discussing the allocation of international slots. Sources said that the ministry has already issued a couple of slots to Air India.

There is no clarification on the decision for all the slots yet. After Jet Airways fell last month, various national and international slots were left vacant, leading to airlines approaching the ministry and have officially given their choices.

Air India also confirmed that it was offered Jet Airways empty spots. Air India officials met with the ministry and were offered most of the vacant international slots, to which, the carrier has agreed to accept and begin air service, airline sources said.
