Congress leader P Chidambaram was granted anticipatory bail by a court on Monday (23 July), thereby granting him protection from arrest until 7 August, The Tribune has reported. The court granted three weeks for the investigation agencies to file a detailed reply to Chidambaram’s application.
In another development the Supreme Court allowed Karti Chidambaram to fly abroad yesterday (23 July) after imposing some conditions. However, the apex court today (24 July) dismissed a plea seeking non issuance of summons against him.
Karti Chidambaram had filed a plea seeking a stay on issuance of summons against him in the Aircel-Maxis case. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had filed a fresh charge-sheet in a Delhi court against 18 of them which includes Karti Chidambaram and his father P Chidambaram.
The case is related to Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) clearance matter, where M/s Global Communication Holding Services Ltd was allegedly granted FIPB approval when P Chidambaram was the Union Finance Minister.
