In a blow to Karti Chidambaram, a Supreme Court (SC) bench today (6 September) denied releasing the Rs 10 crore deposited by him for another three months, reports The Hindu. The amount was deposited with the SC’s registry as security for allowing him to travelling abroad.

The bench chaired by Justice Deepak Gupta decided to keep the money in the fixed deposit for three more months.

However, this is not the first time when the top court has dismissed his plea on the same matter. He had sought the return of the Rs 10 crore in May this year which was also turned down.

Chidambaram is an accused and currently under trial over money laundering allegations and the Aircel-Maxis case, and had deposited the amount following a condition imposed by the apex court for his foreign travels.

Karti Chidambaram is the son of former union finance and home minister P Chidambaram who is also currently under judicial custody for allegedly misusing his power in the INX-Media case. P Chidambaram was earlier transferred to Tihar jail to be kept in custody.
