Alanganallur Jallikattu: CM EPS, Deputy CM OPS To Sponsor A Car Each For Best Bull And Tamer

The third instalment of the Jallikattu season kicked off amidst cheers and whistles at Alanganallur in Madurai on Thursday (17 January), reports The New Indian Express.

The event was flagged off by Minister for Revenue R B Udayakumar in the presence of Madurai South MLA S S Saravanan, District Collector S Natarajan and Sholavandan MLA K Manickam.

Minister Udayakumar also announced that the best bull tamer and the best bull will be awarded a car each, which would be sponsored by Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami and Deputy Chief Minister O Paneerselvam respectively.

Various other prizes such as two-wheelers, bicycles, steel cupboards, sofa sets, power weeder machines and gold coins will also be awarded for the winning tamers.

The District Collector later administered an oath to the tamers before three bulls were unleashed to mark the beginning of the event, as per custom. As many as 772 tamers and 1,400 bulls have been registered to take part in the event.

Medical emergency measures were also in place for the event with a six-member team having being deployed by the Government Rajaji Hospital along with the two Animal Medical Mobile Ambulances (AMMA), four two-wheeler ambulances and ten 108 ambulances stationed at the event.

Nearly 49 fire and rescue personnel along with an estimated 1800 police personnel were also stationed at the venue for security purposes. The Department of Animal Husbandry had also deputed two veterinary teams consisting of 10 members each including a livestock inspector, veterinary doctors and animal husbandry assistants.
