Amid the extension of the nationwide lockdown for another 19 days, the Indian Railways on Tuesday (14 April) decided to extend the suspension of its passenger services till 3 May.
“All passenger train services on Indian Railways including Premium trains, Mail/Express trains, Passenger trains, Suburban Trains, Kolkata Metro Rail, Konkan Railway etc shall continue to remain cancel till the 2400hrs of 3rd May 2020.” the Ministry of Railways said in a tweet.
The development comes after Prime Minister Narendra Modi while addressing the nation on Tuesday (14 April) announced the extension of the nationwide lockdown till 3 May and appealed to citizens to continue following all regulations with discipline.
Earlier last month, the Railways suspended its passenger services till 31 March and later extended it to 14 April after the announcement of a nationwide 21-day lockdown from 24 March midnight.
However, the freight and parcel services of the Railways have been in service to ensure a continuous supply of essential items.
