Amid Lockdown, Hyundai Motor India Exports Over 5,000 Cars In May

Car maker Hyundai Motor India Ltd. on Saturday (30 May) said it has exported over 5,000 units in May after restarting production.

In a statement issued, the company said after restarting production on 8 May it has produced over 5,000 units for export markets.

Pointing out the company's exports of over three million cars since 1999, SS Kim, Managing Director and Chief Executive Office said: "We have once again made a humble beginning towards normalcy by exporting more than 5,000 units in May 2020."

In the calendar year, Hyundai Motor India exported 1,81,200 units with 792 customised variants according to country-specific preference and demand.

In view of the Coronavirus-induced nationwide lockdown, the company had suspended the manufacturing operations at its Chennai Facility from 23 March.

The company restarted production at its Sriperumbudur plant in Chennai on 8 May. On the first day of production, the company rolled out 200 cars.

In a statement on 9 May, Hyundai said that the production operations were commenced ensuring 100 per cent social distancing compliance in accordance with standard operating procedure.

“Hyundai is adhering to all the guidelines set by the State and Central Government and also practicing 360-degree safety – Care at workplace & Care at all times within the factory premises,” the company said.
