NITI Aayog has directed the automobile giants to submit a concrete proposal to move a significant chunk of nation’s traffic towards electronic mobility, within a fortnight, The Economic Times reports.

The policymaking think tank has warned two-wheeler and three-wheeler manufacturers that the courts would step in if they fail to undertake measures to curb pollution.

NITI Aayog Chairman Amitabh Kant, Bajaj Auto MD Rajiv Bajaj, TVS Motor Company Chairman Venu Srinivasan and Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) Director Vishnu Mathur were the key names present at the meeting.

Putting forth the government’s vision to electrify all the two-wheelers below 150cc and three-wheelers by 2015 and 2023 respectively, NITI Aayog underlined that if the established players failed to seize the opportunity new age entrepreneurs would.

Appraising on the fact that 14 out the 15 most polluted cities are in India, the Aayog stressed the need for the government and the auto industry to come together to sort out the issues. Further, a concrete road map to make a shift towards e-mobility was laid out in the meeting to achieve the objective.
