Amidst Babri Hearing, UP CM Yogi Adityanath Set To Offer Prayers At Makeshift Ram Temple In Ayodhya

A day after the crucial Babri Masjid hearing in which senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders were slapped with charges of criminal conspiracy, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will visit Ayodhya to offer prayers at the makeshift Ram temple situated at the disputed Ram Janmbhoomi-Babri Masjid site.
With his visit to the Ram temple, Adityanath will become the second chief minister of Uttar Pradesh to offer prayers at the site after the demolition of the Babri mosque on 6 December 1992. Rajnath Singh was the first chief minister who offered prayers at the site in 2002. No chief minister has, in the past 15 years, visited the disputed site to offer prayers.
Yesterday, he met BJP veterans Lal Krishna Advani, Murli Manohar Joshi and Uma Bharti, who had come to Lucknow to appear before a special Central Bureau of Investigation court in the Babri Masjid demolition case. In a major setback to Advani, Joshi and Uma, the court rejected their discharge application, framing charges against them and the other nine accused in the demolition case.
