Amidst Rising Trade Tensions, Huawei Offers To Enter Into ‘No-Spy Agreement’ With US Government

Chairman of Chinese electronics giant Huawei, Lian Hua, said that his company would be willing to enter into a ‘no-spy agreement’ with the government of the United States (US), reports ANI.
The move would be a step forward in dispelling suspicions of the company using its products to collect information for the Chinese government.
However, the chairman was not too sure of when and how circumstances would permit would such an agreement to be signed. "The U.S. has not bought from us, is not buying from us and doesn't have plans to buy from us. So, I don't know if there's an opportunity to sign such an agreement," he said.
Huawei has previously offered to sign similar agreements with other Western nations such as Germany and the United Kingdom. The company is currently engaged in a legal challenge against the US government blacklisting its products.
In its lawsuit, it has submitted a motion for summary judgement. The company claims that the US government’s decision is ultra vires of the American Constitution.
The specific cause for Huwaei’s woes is the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) which bars government departments from purchasing technology produced by Huawei or another Chinese company, ZTE.
The NDAA was signed by US President Donald Trump last year after he claimed that Huawei’s products that were a threat to American national security.
