In a bid to keep surging airfares at bay, the Ministry of Civil Aviation has issued a direction to airline companies to not resort to predatory pricing, reports Mint.

As an immediate aftermath of the Jet Airways grounding its fleet, a sudden surge in air prices, up to 30 per cent hike on busy routes over the last month has taken place.

Taking congnisance of the trend, Civil Aviation Secretary Pradeep Kharola said that the trends of airfares is thoroughly monitored and the airliners are strictly advised to desist from following any ulterior objectives of predatory pricing.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation(DGCA) has asked the carriers to reduce the fares on 10 domestic routes to reasonable levels.

Airlines are notoriously known to encash on crisis like situations and indulge in unhealthy fare hike as was evident during the Kerala floods last year.
