Terrorists opened fire at a bus carrying pilgrims performing the sacred Amarnath Yatra in Batingu near Anantnag, Jammu and Kashmir, reports PTI. Seven yatris were killed in the attack.
Prior to this, terrorists had attacked a police party in Anantnag, barely thirty minutes earlier. The attack left three policemen wounded.
Apart from those dead, fifteen people were injured in the attack, reports ANI.
Most of the victims were from the state of Gujarat. Two battalions of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) were rushed to the site immediately. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Defence Minister Arun Jaitley condemned the attack, terming it cowardly.
