Ancient Shiva Temple That Got Buried 80 Years Ago Unearthed Near Nellore In Andhra, Officials Yet To Visit Site

An ancient temple of Lord Shiva, that got buried in the sand some 80 years ago has been unearthed at a village 50 km from Nellore in Andhra Pradesh.
New Indian Express reported that Lord Nageswara (Shiva) temple was unearthed yesterday (17 June) on the banks of Penna river near Perumallapadu village in Chejerla Mandal here of Nellore district.
The temple is over 200 years old and was popular among the villagers before it got buried. The villagers later left the place to the other side of the river and it resulted in the temple being ruined.
The temple was unearthed after some villages collected funds and began a search for it. The search began on Monday (15 June) and yesterday, they stumbled upon the pinnacle of the temple.
Locals told the media that a person called Galipala Sudarsan took the initiative to unearth the temple.
The temple’s sanctum sanctorum is believed to be much deeper and plans are afoot to rebuild the temple. The status of the Shiva Linga inside the sanctum sanctorum is unknown.
Efforts to retrieve the temple are continuing.
However, The Hans India reported that the temple was found buried when sand quarrying was taken up at the village.
It said the compound wall and other structure are now visible. No official is yet to visit the site to enquire or seek clarification.
