Andaman & Nicobar: Nine Earthquakes Jolt Picturesque Islands In Just Two Hours

Andaman and Nicobar Islands were jolted by nine medium intensity earthquakes on Monday (1 April), within a span of two hours, reports India Today.
The earthquakes, of magnitude ranging from 4.7 to 5.2 on Richter Scale, hit the Andaman and Nicobar Islands today (1 March) morning, all in a span of two hours, according to the National Centre for Seismology (NCS).
According to the report, the first earthquake with a magnitude of 4.9 hit the islands at 5.14 am. It was followed by another jolt with a magnitude of 5 a couple of minutes later.
The last earthquake was recorded at 6.54am with a magnitude of 5.2, according to NCS.
As per the report, the Andaman and Nicobar archipelago is prone to earthquakes and it is not unusual for the islands to witness more than two-three quakes a day.
An earthquake is the shaking of the surface of the Earth, resulting from the sudden release of energy in the Earth's lithosphere that creates seismic waves.
