An orthopedic surgeon Dr Laxminarayan Reddy died of COVID-19 on Monday (Apr 13) morning at 4.30 am in Apollo Hospital, Vanagaram, Chennai, Zee News reported.
Dr Reddy's pediatrician wife is also infected with novel coronavirus and is currently under treatment for the deadly virus.
A 62 -year-old general physician in Indore, Dr Shaturghan Panjwani, had succumbed to COVID-19 last week becoming the first fatal case of a medical practitioner due to the deadly disease in the country.
According to the report, Dr Reddy had admitted a patient for a surgery in his newly opened hospital in Nellore on Apr 4. Dr. Reddy was unaware that patient has returned from Delhi after attending Tablighi Jamaat's religious event at Nizamuddin.
After he was tested positive for Covid-19, significant delay is said to have occurred in transferring Dr Reddy to a Chennai hospital for treatment as few ambulance drivers refused to shift him to Chennai.
Dr Reddy was finally admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) in Apollo Hospital in Chennai. After responding well to treatment in the hospital for last five days, Dr.Reddy passed away this morning due to profound hypotension.
