Andhra Pradesh: CJI Ranjan Gogoi To Inaugurate Interim High Court Complex At Amaravati

The Andhra Pradesh High Court (HC) complex at Amaravati will be inaugurated today (3 February) by Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi, reports Indian Express.
The two-storied building constructed at Nelapadu in Amaravati capital region has 16 court halls with 12 on the first floor. The building with 2.70 lakh square feet office space has been constructed at the cost of Rs 150 crore.
However, the construction of the actual high court building at Justice City in the capital region is yet to begin. Once that is completed, the HC will shift there and the interim complex to be inaugurated today will house the City Civil Courts.
A separate High Court for Andhra Pradesh came into existence, four and half years after the state bifurcation, on 1 January 2019. President Ram Nath Kovind had on 26 December issued orders for setting up the separate court for Andhra Pradesh. Until the announcement, AP and Telangana shared the High Court complex in Hyderabad.
The HC, however, has started functioning from the temporary building at Vijayawada and will continue until the interim complex is fully ready.
At least 1000 advocates working in the Hyderabad High Court have shifted to Vijayawada after the new court was set up. Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu had invited the Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi to inaugurate the interim HC building.
