Andhra Pradesh coronavirus update
Andhra Pradesh reported its first Coronavirus (Covid-19) death after having delayed providing information for over 72 hours. The death is linked to the Nizamuddin Banglewali Markaz congregation of the Tablighi Jamaat in Delhi during mid-March.
The Hans India reported that a 55-year-old resident of Vijayawada was admitted to Government General Hospital and breathed his last within an hour on 30 March.
The delay in reporting the death was because results of the sample were available only today (3 April), State Nodal Officer for Covid-19 Arja Srikanth said ina report.
The son of the deceased had attended the Banglewali Markaz congregation - Aalami Mashwara - and had returned by the end of March third week. He tested positive for Coronavirus.
The father had got the infection from his son. About 30 persons who had come in contact with the father and son have now been quarantined.
Till now, Andhra Pradesh accounts for 161 of the total 2,640 cases in the country. At least 90 per cent of these positive cases relate to the Tablighi Jamaat congregation.
Covid-19 positive cases have been rising rapidly since 30 March after the Banglewali Markaz congregation came under scrutiny and various State governments began to screen those who had returned from Nizamuddin.
Andhra Pradesh was the first State which reported a Coronavirus case after attending the Banglewali Mashwara on 24 March. However, even before that the Vijayawada local who attended the Nizamuddin congregation had tested Covid-19 positive, though the information was not shared.
The State, though, was among the first to raise an alarm over the Banglewali Markaz event and alert the Centre.
