Andhra Pradesh To Get Its Own High Court: To Start Hearing Cases At Amravati From 1 January 2019

As per an official notification issued by President Ram Nath Kovind on Wednesday (26 December), the state of Andhra Pradesh will have its own high court at its new capital Amravati from 1 January 2019 onwards, reports Hindustan Times.
Since the erstwhile state of Andhra Pradesh was divided into two – Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, in 2014, both the states were being served by the common high court at Hyderabad. This is now going to change with the establishment of a separate high court solely for Andhra Pradesh.
“...the President hereby constitutes a separate High Court for the State of Andhra Pradesh, namely, the High Court of Andhra Pradesh, from the first day of January, 2019 with the principal seat at Amaravati...and the High Court of Judicature at Hyderabad shall become the High Court for the State of Telangana,” reads the order.
The new high court at Amravati will be led by Justice Ramesh Ranganathan, who is presently the Chief Justice of the Uttarakhand High Court. Justice Ranganathan will be joined by 15 other judges at the new high court.
The Telangana High Court will be constituted by 10 judges. The creation of the country’s newest high court brings the total number of such courts nationwide to 25.
