The Vijayawada Road Transport Authority (RTA) has decided to conduct an enforcement drive across the State from 1 December to seize vehicles that don’t have a permanent registration number within a month of purchase. This is to make sure the traffic irregularities go down.

RTA officials have revealed that the police department along with transport commissioner N Balasubramaniam has convened a meeting to discuss the difficulties in identification of vehicles, caught in accidents or crime incidents, as reported by New Indian Express.

The transport commissioner considering their plea has ordered the officials to speed up the vehicle registration procedure. Around one lakh vehicles in Andhra Pradesh have no permanent registration number, with Anantapur topping it.

SAV Prasad Rao, the Joint Transport Commissioner, stated that according to the Motor Vehicle Act, a vehicle owner should get the permanent registration within a month of the purchase and the failure would be a penalty of Rs 300. If there is no registration even after a year, the penalty is Rs.3,600.

Rao says, “It’s a routine affair for the department to conduct to surprise checks and penalise violators. But this time, the checks will be conducted strictly, and vehicles will be seized on the spot if the vehicle owner fails to get a permanent registration number before November 30”.
