Andhra Pradesh coronavirus update
From the overnight tally of 186, the number of Covid cases jumped by 67 to record an all-time one-day high of 253 positive cases on Sunday (14 June). Incidentally, Saturday's tally was the previous highest single day record.
With the latest update, Andhra Pradesh's cumulative tally of Covid cases has zoomed to 4,841.
The past week has witnessed daily rise by not less than 100 cases. The current trend has been taking shape since 6 June, when the state reported a 3-digit tally of 161 cases for the first time.
On a positive note, 82 persons were discharged from hospitals on Sunday, raising the cumulative tally of cured persons in the state to 2,723 from the overnight figure of 2,641.
Meanwhile, the cumulative tally of active cases in the state also climbed to 2,034 from Saturday's figure of 1,865 active cases, the state nodal officer reported.
With 2 deaths reported during the 24 hours ending 9:00am, Sunday, the death toll in Andhra Pradesh climbed to 84. While one death was reported from Kurnool district, another one was reported from East Godavari district.
Over the past few days, the state's mortality rate has been improving steadily. On Sunday, Andhra Pradesh's mortality rate stood at 1.43, sharing the 9th position with Chandigarh among the states of India. In comparison, India's mortality rate was 2.87 per cent on Sunday.
In comparison to 14,477 samples on Saturday, 15,633 tests were conducted in the last 24 hours, the state nodal officer reported.
Sunday also saw a rise in the cumulative tally of COVID-19 cases among returnees from other states. On Sunday, the tally stood at 1,107 compared to the Saturday figure of 1,068 cases.
However, the tally of active cases dropped from 546 to 536 with 48 persons being discharged from hospital.
Two new cases were detected among foreign returnees, taking the cumulative tally to 204. The number of active cases in this category stood at 181, with one discharge taking place on Sunday.
