After receiving complaints from commuters of too many announcements on the Magenta Line (Janakpuri West-Botanical Garden), the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) announced that it would be reducing the announcements by 80 per cent, reports Times of India.

The corporation could also bring in regulations in the number of announcements on the Pink Line (Majlis Park-Shiv Vihar). “DMRC has decided to regulate audio announcements made inside metro trains on the Magenta Line on a trial basis for three months starting Monday, February 18,” a DMRC spokesperson said.

Currently, the DMRC makes 34 announcements on the Magenta Line journey in both audio and video formats he said, while adding that only seven general announcements would be made in audio and video format in the train.

As many as 25 of the 34 announcements are only in video formats.“The video announcements are the ones like ‘Welcome to Delhi Metro’, ‘Use smart cards’, ‘Deposit tokens’ etc.,” he said. “Rest of the two announcements in the ladies coach and its directions etc. will be removed from the train, but will be made on the platform at the stations,” the spokesperson said.

The DMRC would decide on whether to continue the new initiative and induction into Pink Line after three months, once users provide feedback, he said. The feature would need testing separately since trains on other lines do not have a mechanism to make video announcements.
