Another Blow To Left Wing Extremism: Chhattisgarh Police Puts Down Nine Naxals In Encounter

Nine Naxals and two Police personnel were killed in an encounter in Chhattisgarh’s Sukma district today (26 November). The encounter is taking place in Saklar village under the Kistaram police station jurisdiction.

“We have recovered the bodies of total nine Maoists till now, and the number can increase,” said special director general of police DM Awasthi. Reinforcements have been rushed to the spot, and further details are awaited as the encounter is underway as reported by The Tribune India.

In the year 2017, at least 685 Naxalites have surrendered as opposed to the 1,442 surrenders in 2016. Until 31 March 2018, at least 157 Naxalites have surrendered, the Home Ministry data states.

Naxal presence is restricted to 9 states in 2017 compared to 10 states in 2013 according to Home Ministry . The number of districts reporting violence has reduced from 76 (2013) to 58 (2017) in a span of four years. Police stations reporting Naxal violence have reduced in number from 330 to 291 during the same period.
