Donald Trump, the President of the United States of America, has appointed an Indian-American lawyer, Neil Chatterjee, as the Chairman of Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), as reported by Swarajya.

FERC is tasked with regulating the transmission and wholesale sale of electricity and natural gas across the country.

Chatterjee, who is currently one of the three commissioners at the prestigious agency, will succeed Kevin McIntyre as the new Chairman. "Trump designates Neil Chatterjee to be Chair of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission," the White House said in a statement.

He joins the illustrious list of Indian-Americans in the Trump Administration, which includes Ajit Pai - Chairman of FCC (Federal Communications Commission) and Raj Shah - Deputy Assistant To The President. Indian-American Nikki Haley, who served as US’s ambassador to United Nations has resigned recently.

As of August 2015, 2.4 million Indian immigrants lived in the US. This makes them the largest immigrant group in the country, second only to the Mexicans. Indian professionals are highly sought after by American companies working in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
