The Bharatiya Janata Party on Monday (8 April) unveiled its election manifesto for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls. After an introductory speech by party president Amit Shah, the senior leaders of the party including Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched it/

The highlights of the party manifesto were then presented by the president of its drafting committee Rajnath Singh:

  • BJP reiterates its commitment to nationalism and stressed that it has no tolerance towards terrorism
  • Commitment towards implementing Uniform Civil code and curbing illegal immigration
  • Citizenship bill will be passed but care would be taken to safeguard cultural linguistic identity every particular state
  • Article 35A and Article 370 granting special status to Jammu and Kashmir to be repealed. The manifesto adds that article 35A is discriminatory against non-permanent residents and women of Jammu and Kashmir
  • No compromise on national security
  • Speedy construction of ram temple under the ambit of the constitution after exploring all possibilities
  • Credit Card loan up to Rs 1 lakh to carry zero per cent interest rate for the next five years
  • To spend Rs 25 lakh crore on rural welfare
  • Every farmer irrespective of his or her land ownership would be a beneficiary of PM Kisan scheme and would also get pension after the age of 60
  • National traders association to be set up and small shopkeepers to also get a pension facility
  • Regional imbalance would be eliminated
  • Consensus to be built for simultaneous state and national polls
  • GST to be further simplified, digitisation of land records
  • Seats to be increased in excellent engineering colleges
  • Drinking water, toilet, gas cylinder in every home
  • 75 new medical colleges in the country, telemedicine, medical consultancy and doctor patient ration of 1:1,400
  • Significant improvement in “Ease of Doing Business” ranking
  • All government functions to go digital, judicial documents to also be digitised
