Home Minister Amit Shah while speaking in the Lok Sabha on Friday (28 June) put it on record that Article 370 which provides special status for Jammu and Kashmir is a temporary provision.
He also pointed a finger at former prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru, by holding him responsible for the Kashmir issue. Shah in his speech questioned Nehru for ordering a ceasefire and giving away Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (POK) to the Islamic nation.
He added that, “you say we don't take people into confidence, but Nehru did it without taking the then home minister Sardar Patel into confidence”.
While debating on the issue of extending President’s rule in Jammu and Kashmir, Shah rejected the opposition’s contention that J&K cannot be treated like other Indian states due to the special status granted via Article 370.
Shah asserted that Article 370 is a temporary provision. The promise to abrogate article 370 and 35A was a major poll plank of the BJP.
