Arunachal: Villagers Volunteer To Help Indian Air Force Repair Its Eastern Most Landing Strip In Vijaynagar

People from 11 villages of adjacent to Vijayanagar in Arunachal Pradesh have volunteered to help the Indian Air Force (IAF) repair its Advance Landing Ground (ALG) in the region, reports Financial Express.
The ALG, situated in the Changlang district of Arunachal Pradesh bordering Myanmar, is vital to the local people, owing to the lack of proper road connectivity. It has not been under use since 2016.
The landing strip in Vijaynagar will be IAF’s eastern-most facility in India.
After getting approval from Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) in June 2009, the IAF has started the onerous task of upgrading the existing eight ALGs, including developing the infrastructure at some air-bases in Eastern Air Command’s (EAC) area of responsibility.
According to the report, the place is not connected with a motorable road, and the ALG has not been fit for operations of fixed-wing aircraft since 2016.
Locals from 11 nearby villages has volunteered to help the IAF authorities. The specialised team is in place to repair, and the material is being transported to the ALG in phases.
As per the report, the working capability of the IAF has got a big boost since 2016 with the re-launching of two upgraded ALGs at Ziro and Along in Arunachal Pradesh.
