To get the true picture of the extent of spread of COVID-19 in the State and prepare an appropriate strategy, the Punjab Government is set to conduct a sero-survey across the State in a bid to contain the situation, reports Times of India.

The sero-survey will be conducted in high-populations including comprising frontline workers, health workers, doctors, policemen, industrial workers, farmers, staff of the municipal corporations, people with compromised immunity and containment zones.

The decision comes as the State has been rocked by a surge in confirmed COVID-19 cases since the Unlock 1.0 was announced. The total number of confirmed cases in the State have touched 3,063 so far, of which 65 have already succumbed to the viral disease.

Meanwhile, it should be noted that in a sero-survey the blood samples of people are collected to ascertain the spread of the virus in a selected population. One such survey was recently conducted in four districts of Punjab and several other districts from other States.
